| Science People
SCIENCE PEOPLE
is designed to build on the natural curiosity of young students and demonstrate
how men and women through the ages have used that same curiosity to examine and
explain the workings of the universe.
This show focuses on the
personalities and motivation of the great scientists, as well as their
accomplishments. It conveys the wonder and awe of Galileo examining the stars
and the planets with his telescope. The audience joins Isaac Newton as he
questions why apples fall to the earth. They witness Louis Pasteur using his
microscope to find the germs that cause milk to spoil.
George Washington Carver uses his
knowledge of botany to save southern farms from the boll weevil. The modern
world comes into focus with the work of Marie Curie and the development of
x-rays.
With the typical verve and humor
of Duet Productions, this play makes the scientific method come to life.

The Seeds of Freedom
AN
UNSUNG HERO OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
AND A CELEBRATED SON OF POLAND,
THADDEUS KOSCIUSZKO'S STORY IS NOW ON STAGE. |
|
This
dynamic production follows Kosciuszko's path from his native
Poland to America in 1776. His duties as a military engineer
brought him into most of the major fields of battle during the
American Revolution including: Philadelphia, Fort Ticonderoga,
Saratoga, Dan River, Charleston and more. At West Point he
designed and built fortifications that stopped the British
advances up the Hudson river. He also constructed a rock garden
that is still there, tended by cadets of the U.S. Military
Academy.
His
amazing military skill was matched by his unyielding dedication
to the cause of freedom, for countries and individuals.
Thomas Jefferson called General Kosciuszko "the purest son
of liberty I have ever met".
With
a lively sense of humor and history, playwright Steve Seyfried
has captured the spirit of this man and his time. THE SEEDS OF FREEDOM
provides a fact-filled review of revolutionary America while
offering an inspirational portrayal of an extraordinary man.
General
Kosciuszko believed in sowing the seeds of freedom, compassion,
service and perseverance wherever he went.
It is a valuable lesson for our own time.
THE SEEDS OF FREEDOM
is designed for grades 1-8. Four performers play
all the characters in this dynamic and memorable production.
Running time for the show is 45 minutes.

In
1922 British archeologist Howard Carter uncovered the tomb of an Egyptian king
that had lain hidden for over 3,000 years. Carter was astounded by the
magnificent treasures buried along with King Tutankhamen.
This delightful play brings the stories of the dedicated archeologist and the
youthful king together. Audiences will get a glimpse into the rich cultural
history of ancient Egypt, while learning of the skills and persistence of those
involved in archeological digs.
This historical tale is told with a marvelous
sense of mystery and adventure, and, as always, a touch of humor to keep things
lively. Two actors play all the characters. The show runs
forty-five minutes.
Versions are available for elementary and junior high
schools.

ANDROCLES
AND THE LION

Here's a fun-filled version of Aesop's fable of
friendship and freedom. An unhappy Greek slave, Androcles, runs away and becomes
lost in the deep woods. There he crosses paths with a fierce lion. The lion has
a large thorn painfully stuck in his paw. Androcles decides not to run away, and
stays to pull the thorn out and relieve the pain.
Androcles is then pursued by two comically inept soldiers who finally capture
him. He is then thrown into the arena to face a ferocious lion. Fortunately the
lion is his friend from the deep woods. The two refuse to fight and the governor
is so impressed, he grants them both their freedom.
